Carnival Liberty Cruise Review

I was delighted when I was chosen to sample a 3-night mini-cruise onboard Carnival’s latest 2,974-passenger SuperLiner, the Carnival Liberty this July to launch the company’s first ever Mediterranean cruises.   Having never cruised before, this was a fantastic experience for me – and 1,000 and more British and European travel agents who all sampled Carnival’s great hospitality, entertainment, dining and activities – and enjoyed Carnival’s unique informal lifestyle and great USA style service!

Launched this summer, Carnival Liberty is the largest contemporary-style ship to cruise Europe – and she’ll be returning next summer due to the huge success of the 2005 programme, offering 15 fabulous 12-night Grand Mediterranean cruises from Rome – calling at Naples and Dubrovnik, spending an entire night and day in Venice, then visiting Messina in Sicily, Barcelona, Cannes and Livorno!

Our cruise was a 3-night sampler, but as well as some serious sunbathing, we were able to pack in a visit to Duvrovnik in Croatia and discover how a cruise onboard the Carnival Liberty is the ultimate way to travel between these gorgeous places! Whilst onboard you can enjoy delicious dining, pampering service, spectacular entertainment and state of the art resort amenities – as your “hotel at sea” cruises towards your next fascinating destination.

New innovations on this spectacular floating resort include a 13,300-square-foot health spa – featuring state-of-the-art exercise equipment, fitness and aerobic classes, and choice of sophisticated treatments. Meanwhile on deck – around the main pool (there are four onboard) with its spectacular waterslide, a huge 12-foot-high by 22-foot-wide movie screen shows films, sporting events and concerts under the stars!

Dining options include two restaurants serving delicious cuisine in elegant surroundings, a 1,400-seat poolside eatery – offering tasty buffets, salads and even Oriental specialities; and a sophisticated reservations-only supper club, which carries a small cover charge.  If you’re peckish in between, there’s even a sushi bar, a 24-hour pizzeria – and round the clock room service!

Of the ship’s 1,479 staterooms, 60 percent offer either an ocean view or private balcony.  Even standard inside and sea-view accommodation is spacious – and my very comfortable cabin had bathroom (complete with scented soaps and shower gel), ample wardrobe space, hairdryer and power-shower.

This was my first cruise – and it’s going to take some serious competition to beat!!!

Who would I recommend Carnival’s Mediterranean cruises to?  Certainly couples (all ages) looking to visit lots of fascinating destinations in two weeks (expect friendly, efficient service but this type of cruise is not for people who prefer formal dining and silver service!), and families will love Carnival’s special free daytime entertainment programme for children aged 2-15 – kids have their own playrooms, computer & video games areas, art and painting classes and even wading pool
