Day 7 - Moji/Kitakyushu

During WWII, the original target of the "Fat Man" atomic bomb was not Nagasaki, but Kokura, one of five small cities that merged to create Kitakyushu in 1963. Thanks to thick cloud cover, the city was spared. Today, you can stroll a winding promenade at Moji Port to discover some of Kitakyushu's historic buildings, shops, restaurants, and museums. Kokura Castle, an impressive symbol of the city, and the beautiful Kawachi Wisteria Garden are among the area's most popular attractions.

The Geomunoreum Lava Tube System includes 7km-long Manjanggul Cave, created centuries ago when Hallasan was still active

Incheon is rising to new heights, literally. The city is developing metropolitan real estate with dramatic results, including a district called Songdo International City, home to the world’s tallest twin tower buildings and South Korea’s tallest building, the North Asia Trade Tower. Visit Independence Memorial Hall commemorating General MacArthur, who turned the tide of the Korean War, while farther afield the Incheon Islands are favored by hikers and beachgoers.

Visit the castle, completed in 1611, as well as the Izumo Taisha, or Grand Shrine, and explore its mysterious beginnings that trace beyond the 8th century.
